Troy-Bilt 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer Review

Troy-Bilt 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer Review
Item #: 75140 | Model #: 20414

When I started this blog, I assumed I would be only talking tech. Well that led to philosophic musing and then comments on other stuff. I’m not sure where a pressure washer fits but regardless I am writing about it.

I was power washing the mildew off the siding and thought the odor was the detergent I was using. When I looked over my shoulder and saw the grey smoke pouring out of the pressure washer, I realized what the odor really was. Considering the age of my venerable electric power washer, I concluded that discretion being the better part of safety and how water and electricity don’t play well, I trashed my old power washer.

After much research, I found the Troy-Bilt 20414 was the best bang for the buck I could find. Keep in mind I am a consumer, not some testing house, so I make my purchases based on research and price point. I wanted electric but my boys who participated in the purchase, wanted more power. The only way to get more power was to go to a gas engine powered washer. The Troy-Bilt was the sweet spot between more power and higher prices.

The basic specs are: 2700 PSI 2.3 GPM Gas Pressure Washer Powered by a Briggs & Stratton Professional Series™ OHV 7.75 ft-lbs gross torque engine with ReadyStart® System & a Fresh Start® fuel cap that runs cooler, longer, and delivers more power with reduced sound levels Fold-down handle design for compact and convenient storage 4 Project Precision Spray Tips (0 , 15 , 40 and low pressure) offer preset pressure and flow settings that are right for each project 10" never go flat wheels for all-terrain mobility Maintenance-free axial cam pump with Easy Start™ pump technology

Assembly went well. All the parts were really there. The pressure washer worked well and more power was nice. It came with 4 different tips with clear instructions on which tip to use when. I liked that the handle storage also marked what the uses are for the tips. The folding handle is necessary if you want to load it in the back of most SUVs. You can get the box home in the back seat of a sedan but once it is assembled and has gas in it, you must keep it upright. The extension tip holder was iffy. If you want it secured you will wrap a bungee cord around it. I was impressed with how easily it started. I stopped it periodically and it restarted with very little effort. The detergent chamber was easily accessible and adequately large.

My only complaint was the torn knuckle I got when attaching the hose input and the pressure line. The spacing of the two connectors is inadequate for turning without bashing knuckles. I put a brass quick release on the hose coupler. The unit’s coupling is plastic and that seems like a fitting that should be some more durable material.

Overall it did a good job and it seems like a good purchase for the money. It does have a two year warranty. Oddly the electric units only had a one year warranty and I would have thought their reliability would have been greater than a gas unit.

If you are looking for a good, mid-range, inexpensive pressure washer this unit should be considered. To get any significant increase in power you more than doubled the price.

Had mine for about 5 months, works well easy to use...Detergent valve could be marked better to indicate if open or close easier...Otherwise good value for the $$$$.

5 years later, I used the power washer yesterday and it did just as great a job as it did fresh out of the box.
Pressure washing is much better than standard cleaning. It blasts the hard to reach areas. It also helps it to clean in a much better system. Pressure washer actually the best machine which easy to clean large surface quickly.

Remington RM2510 Rustler 17-Inch 25cc 2-Cycle Curved Shaft Gas Trimmer with QuickStart Technology

I haven't had a gas powered weed wacker for several years.   I still find the mixing of gas and oil a pain in the butt.   Since all my gas cans are in use and I didn't want to empty one to test this, I bought a new one gallon can.   The Remington includes a starter can of oil, 3.2oz which you mix with one gallon of gas.   I'm a direction reader so after reading them several times I began.  I installed the shield and repositioned the handle.   Pretty simple and wing nuts are not just goofy people, these wing nuts worked just fine.   It has a primer bulb which you depress ten times and then adjust the choke and pull away.   It is a very light pull and it started after the third sequence  of five pulls.   You leave it warm up and then you are ready to go.   The bump head that is supposed to release the cutting line works but not smoothly.  I was unable to get it to release line on the grass.  I had to "bump" it on the driveway to get it to release.   I
