Amazon’s Kindle Fire-Looks Awesome!

No point in going into specs, look at them here .   Here being the Amazon product page.   Amazon knocked the competition around today with their $199.00 tablet.   That’s $199.00!!! The specs and content look good, more importantly their new browser named Silk looks very good.  They claim to have married the Kindle to Cloud computing with the “heavy lifting” being done by Amazon’s robust servers lurking in their cloud.   If their claim is valid and this actually does work, it is setting a standard that will have to be met.  Speed is the name of the game and if Silk works as advertised Amazon is going to be way out in front.   Check it out on the Amazon product page ! Looking For A Little Nookie? Maybe The nook Wi-Fi is for you!

Don’t you just love teaser headlines? In this case, the nookie I am referring to is not what you are thinking. Of course I may be wrong, you could have immediately realized I was referring to the price drop on the Barnes and Nobel Nook. In spite of some of my luddite leaning rants lately, I am still a technut. I can’t help myself, in spite of some of the demoralizing experiences I’ve had lately. I still prefer a book whose pages I can turn. The price drop of the Nook and the realize of the WiFi version is making me sit up and take notice. If I ever get a smart phone that has good reception without forcing me to buy a cellular repeater, I will probably load it with some books. My old Dell xv51 is still limping along and I do still read books on it. The Nook is so much nicer though and the screen size is infinitely better than on my PDA or future to be named smart phone. The Nook pricing is going to provide some serious impetus for Amazon and Sony to look at their pricing. Note th...

Kindle, Slate or i-Pad; Much Ado About Nothing!

Much ado about nothing comes to mind with all the hype over the release of the Apple i-Pad or the HP Slate. Who knows what Apple originally intended, the bottom line is that their tablet is designed for a “rich multi-media experience”. The HP Slate was originally conceived as an e-book platform that also gradually morphed into a rich multi-media Swiss army knife. I think the pundits are missing the boat. A good e-book platform at a $99.00 price point would be a run away best seller. Another notebook without a keyboard is likely to be not so much. I’m an avid reader. I have 75 books loaded into my pda which also has a version of Excel and Word as well as a version of media player. I purchased an infrared keyboard for it and with it’s built in WIFI it is an adequate substitution for a laptop that fits in my pocket without looking like I am overly glad to see you. The screen is way smaller than a Kindle but bigger than my cell phone. I own it. It is paid for and I own it. See where I ...

What is a Kindle?

Recently at dinner after sullying a beautiful day with a rather dismal golf game, the Kindle came up. Technogeeks and other tech aficionados tend to forget the bulk of the world does not have the same interests as we do. I blogged not long ago on the new Kindle with the rash assumption that everyone knows what a Kindle is and how it works. My dinner companions were happy to point out to me that many people don’t live in front of a computer. So for the folks who are not familiar with the Kindle the following is right from the Amazon web site. Incidentally Kindle is not the only game in town, Sony has a reader as well, currently on sale at Staples for $279.00. Kindle, a electronic device for reading. Slim: Just over 1/3 of an inch, as thin as most magazines Lightweight: At 10.2 ounces, lighter than a typical paperback Wireless: 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle, anytime, anywhere; no monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots Books in Under 6...

Kindle’s Big Brother Is Coming

Being a technut, I love to see really cool stuff coming out. I have a PDA and it holds my books and I use it when traveling and when I am reading in any low light environment. The back lighting enables reading just about anywhere. If I didn’t already have a PDA, I am sure I would have a Kindle. Now Amazon has brought out the Kindle DX. It is way bigger and I am sure easier to read. If my 401k hadn’t turned into a 201k, I would consider buying it. As gadgets go it is a bit pricy at $489.00 but give it a couple of years and inevitably it will drop in price. Here are the specs. This is not a paid blog but if you buy one by clicking on the link below, I will get a commission. Not enough to buy a Kindle book, let alone a Kindle but every bit helps. Since I use any thing I make on my blogs or Amazon to buy more books, if you buy something from my site, you are supporting Literacy. So Support Literacy!
