OXO Good Grips Extendable Twister Snowbrush

Ok, if you would have told me I would spend $20.00 for a car snow brush, I would have thought you were nuts.   They used to give the darn things away which probably dates me more than I want to admit.  This is by far the nicest snow brush I have ever owned.

This brush has a hefty, well built feel to it.   The telescoping feature allows you to reach the middle of the widest SUV windshield.   Hmm, well I am 6’2 so maybe it won’t enable everyone to reach the middle of the windshield but most people.

It has a swivel brush head to allow you to pull snow back rather than sweep it down.  The brush isn’t a wimpy softy type brush but a rather stiff strong brush.   In addition this thing would deter most muggers, it is that sturdy!

I think this is a very good snowbrush.

Micro HDMI to HDMI For ACER Iconia 700A

15 ft Premium GOLD Plated Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable for HTC EVO 4G, Motorola Droid X and other portable devices with Micro HDMI port.   This cable was purchased to hook my tablet to my TV.  The cable works and it was only $6.98 including shipping at Amazon.   $30.00 was the price at our local stationary giant store.   I got a nice clear picture of my home screen and browser using this cable.   I was not able to get video but I suspect (I will find out.) that the Android Jelly Bean lack of flash inhibited my video viewing.   More research on my part will be needed to figure that out.   However the cable works just fine.

·                     Supports full 1080p HD video
·                     Allows compact devices to have all the benefits of HDMI
·                     Share movies and photo slideshows from your phone to your HDTV for all to see
·                     Connect to HDMI equipped displays for educational and business presentations
·                     Combines audio and video into a single HDMI output

NEW 6FT Digital Audio Optical Fiber Cable Toslink SPDIF

The price on this cable was beyond silly.  $0.56 for the cable and $2.98 for shipping was the grand total.   The cable is decent quality and the sound coming from the sound bar is good.  I’m  not an audiophile so I’m sure I am offending someone with my willingness to hook my sound bar up to my TV with a cheap cable.

The only thing I can say is that it works and frankly I just bought it to see if it worked better than the RCA connection and it did.   I got this at Amazon.

This is NOT a learning game unless learning the necessary artillery arc from a catapult is part of your lesson plan.   The catapult has surprising range.  The "death pig" is easy to assemble.  This entertained both my son and grandson. Shop around, this was $30.00 at Kmart and $55.00 at Amazon.  Both are overpriced but it was a well received gift.

Mr. Heater Hero Forced Air Propane Heater 30,000-60,000 BTU/Hr. MH60CLP

I probably shouldn’t write reviews right after unsuccessfully testing a product.   Feeling is starting to come back to my fingers but it is slow.   I read manuals.  I read them multiple times with products I am unfamiliar with as opposed to computer related stuff where I have a high comfort factor.  Propane is flammable and not so good to breathe so I read this manual several times through before connecting anything.

The connections were straight forward.  The admonishment to fully charge the battery was quite clear as well.   It looked pretty clear cut.   I charged the battery.  I connected the gas line to the tank and to the heater.   I turned on the fan which again you are cautioned to do, I did like all the cautions.   I let the fan run a bit and then I “slowly, this is another admonishment, pushed the orange starter button down.   The heater ignited, I got startled and the heater went out.   I tried again and this time was prepared for the sudden noise.   I let go of the ignition button and the heater went off.   After several attempts with no ignition, I recalled that there was an interlock and if you hadn’t gotten it started, turn it off, turn the fan off and redo the starting process.

I did this multiple times to no avail.  As soon as I let up the ignition button the heater stopped.   I did read that you should hold the ignition button from 30 to 60 seconds after the heater ignites.   I brought out a clock to make sure that I was actually waiting the appropriate length of time.  Due to the garage door being open, the garage was very chilly and I thought that maybe I was rushing my 1001, 1002 etc count of seconds.   I timed the length of time I was holding the ignition button and 30,60 and 90 seconds made no difference.  As soon as I took my finger off the button the heater stopped.

I reread the manual and could not discover anything I was doing that was not part of the appropriate start up procedure.   At this point I had little feeling left in my toes and hands and decided that I had tested this product as far as I was physically able to stand it.

I can’t imagine that the coldness of my propane or garage had an impact as this is a heater.  It is supposed to be used in cold conditions.   The manual does not recommend use below zero degrees but my garage was no colder than 31 degrees according to my thermometer.

On a plus note, if you get one that runs, it is substantially quieter than the ones I dealt with back in my construction job days.   The noise when it ignites was similar but a lot less loud than I remember.   The unit seems nicely constructed.   The manual is detailed as to how to do your start up.  The size is great compared to the old ones I remember.   If I could have got it to stay running I probably would have loved it and gone 5 stars.  Since I (and admittedly I could have screwed something up) could not get it to continue running after thoroughly reading the manual, I can’t recommend it.

Acer ICONIA Tab A700-10k32u 10.1-Inch Tablet

I researched tablets thoroughly and Samsung is the only other tablet in this size that I considered.  Both tablets had the 1920x1200 resolution but the Samsung tablet did not have a functional USB port.  I don’t have a strong use for a functional USB port but I like the flexibility it provides.   I have tried a USB keyboard on the Acer and it worked just fine as long as you remember you aren’t dealing with a Microsoft OS.   I tried a 1TB USB drive on the Acer and it also worked fine.   I have not gotten a Micro HDMI to HDMI cable yet to test that feature.

The tablet has a great display.  I’m not a big watcher of video on my tablets but I tested this and it passed with flying colors.   I play some word games, check my email, do some surfing and basically use it as a really portable laptop.   I plan on testing the HDMI and will report on that when the test is accomplished.

I snagged a 32gb microSD card for the tablet which gives me 64gb of storage.  I am old enough to clearly remember my first 10MB hard drive so  I am in awe of 64gb in my tablet.  I have Skyped with the tablet and it seemed a little choppier than my laptop but I can’t say that is the tablet’s fault.   I can’t picture myself walking around taking photos with the tablet but I tested it and it worked fine.

It comes with Polaris Office and that has opened my MS files with not difficulty.   The sound is substantial but if you plan on watching a movie, I would suggest using headphones.  I saw reviews on this product that mentioned heat issues.  I leave it plugged in 24/7 unless I am using it and I saw no heat issues whatsoever.

Overall I am pleased with the tablet.  It is priced all over the place so do your due diligence.  As an aside, when I was in the business we had less problems with Acer products than most of the major brands.
