Midland Emergency Weather Alert Radio

Midland Emergency Weather Alert Radio

As I look out at the water puddling my yard, I have to wonder about the extreme weather we have been having.   Recently there was a consistent red band on the bottom of the TV warning of tornados.   I don’t live in a tornado prone area so that was troubling, troubling enough that I had difficulty sleeping that night.  I get grumpy when I can’t sleep.

I got up and found an ap for my beloved Droid X that will alert you to tornados.  It downloaded and setup just fine but it wouldn’t let me put in my location or any other location.  So it was worthless.

The next day I went to Amazon and searched for an emergency radio.   The Midland WR-120 got good reviews, it has battery backup and it was inexpensive.   The feature I liked most was that you can set it for the weather station closest to your location and filter out the other stuff.   I feel bad if they have a tornado in Harrisburg but I don’t want woken up in the middle of the night about it.   BTW if you set the siren on this puppy be prepared to be launched right out of slumber land.   I had it in another room and still jumped when a flood warning went off last night.

Overall this is a good product for peace of mind with the crazy weather we have been having.

Addendum 4/19/12:  The radio babbles constantly, it should have the ability to provide a very narrow range that could be set to hear and to silence the stuff outside of your immediate area.

Remington RM2510 Rustler 17-Inch 25cc 2-Cycle Curved Shaft Gas Trimmer with QuickStart Technology

I haven't had a gas powered weed wacker for several years.   I still find the mixing of gas and oil a pain in the butt.   Since all my gas cans are in use and I didn't want to empty one to test this, I bought a new one gallon can.   The Remington includes a starter can of oil, 3.2oz which you mix with one gallon of gas.   I'm a direction reader so after reading them several times I began.  I installed the shield and repositioned the handle.   Pretty simple and wing nuts are not just goofy people, these wing nuts worked just fine.   It has a primer bulb which you depress ten times and then adjust the choke and pull away.   It is a very light pull and it started after the third sequence  of five pulls.   You leave it warm up and then you are ready to go.   The bump head that is supposed to release the cutting line works but not smoothly.  I was unable to get it to release line on the grass.  I had to "bump" it on the driveway to get it to release.   I
