This may work just fine with a phone that does not have a protective case. My case is waterproof and it thusly has the port recessed deeper than usual. Consequently I could not get this to plug in as the male aspect wasn't long enough. I was able to have the device recognized by both a 2.0 and 3.0 standard USB ports on my laptop. My thunderbolt port was unable to see the device. Conceptually this is swiss army knife type of device that gives a wide variety of connections, just be aware that if you have a case on your phone it may not work for you. The included documentation does not make it clear that the 32gb sd card comes out. The description on the Amazon selling page shows it more clearly. Initially I felt the photo was deceiving but when you follow the instructions you can remove the 32gb micro sd card and replace it with larger capacity up to 256gb.
