Shame on COMCAST for Dropping Norton Antivirus

One more time Xfinity/Comcast has proved annoying.   They are dropping Norton protection as of Dec. 31, 2020 for their own "protection".   I have not read anything that indicates that their protection is remotely as robust as Norton.  Now today Norton offered to take on Comcast customers for one year for $1.00.   Great deal, right?   Well maybe, maybe not.  Yes, the first year is a great deal but with automatic renewal you would be put right into $104.99 package in year two for five devices.

This means it is time to read and shop.   There are an astounding number of articles rating antivirus software.   They seldom agree as to which one is best and best is or at least should be a combination of price and performance.  Finding the right price with the features you need is challenging.   I found that the product website sometimes had a better price than Amazon, Staples or others and sometimes it didn't so their is no flat statement that a reseller will have a better price or that the originator will have the better price.

This chart shows what I found and I DO NOT guarantee its accuracy as prices are fluid.

Kaspersky       $19.99             1 year             3          Amazon

AVG Ultimate $24.95             2 years            5          Amazon

Norton 360      $19.99             1 year             5          Amazon

McAfee           $60.00             2 years            10        McAfee

Total AV         $39.00             1 year            5          Total AV

Avast               $39.00             1 year             10        Amazon

Bitdefender     $27.00             1 year             5          Bitdefender

Cylance           $49.50             2 years            5          Cylance

Malwarebytes $44.99             1 year             5          Amazon

I am not recommending Amazon specifically, it is just easy to get prices on their platform.

Cylance states that they will renew at the price you pay initially but that was only claimed for their price on one device.  I could find no commitment to renewal at the same price on multiple units.

The number of devices you need to cover will impact which product is best for you.   All of packages were rated as good by somebody who claimed to be authoritive.    Look at the features and make a choice.   I don't need another VPN or bogus cloud storage so I took that into consideration.

Most of these companies make it difficult or confusing to find out what it will cost after the initial low price.  That in and of itself would make me buy from someone else.

You need to be protected, this should give you an idea what it will cost you after Comcast, once again, puts it to the customer by dropping a feature but keeping (LOL always raising) the same price.  😠

Samsung FlipShot-ho hum

I just got the Samsung FlipShot aka SCH-U900. If you haven’t noticed by now, I am very family oriented, specifically focused on grandchildren. I frequently lament that I don’t have my camera on me. However, I always have my phone on me. Thusly I wanted a phone with a decent camera. The FlipShot comes close. Samsung claims it is a 3 megapixel camera with flash and zoom. The photos are not what I would consider decent from a digital camera but compared to my last phone/camera, they are much better. The phone has a slot for a micro sd memory card. I popped a 2gb card in there for saving my photos. I have not been able to find a way to default the photos to the memory card. You have to manually move them. I haven’t given up and perhaps in a software upgrade there will be a way to get them to the card without moving them manually. Getting them off of the phone is interesting. If you don’t buy Samsung’s charging/data cable, you can send them to yourself and get them on your pc that way. You
