Conair Curl Fusion Ionic Ceramic Styler Hair Drye

Conair Curl Fusion Ionic Ceramic Styler Hair Dryer is quieter than my wife's last hair dryer which was promoted as being very quiet.  This hair dryer has a much larger fan area than her previous hair dryer.  She has not noticed any difference in the quality of the drying.   She does feel that some way of narrowing the air flow to direct it to more specific areas would be handy.  Overall she is happy with the dryer and hopes that the ceramic heating really does cause less hair damage.  Oh, it does include a volumizing attachment that she said would only work with hair longer than hers.   I guess the biggest reason I like it is that it is quieter.

Melitta Javajig Reusable Coffee Filter System for Single Serve, 1.90 Ounce

Slick little system that enables you to use your own coffee in a Keurig type coffee maker.   It comes with two little cups with lids that you can wrap with a filter and put your own inexpensive coffee into it instead of the grossly priced coffee pods.   If you are truly economical you can even cut about four of these tiny filters out of an ordinary coffee filter.  It works, just not terribly elegant.  I haven’t bought replacement filters yet so the cutting of the large ones comes in handy.   At $8.99 you can replace your cost of purchase after about 12 cups of pod coffee.

·                     Includes 2 reusable filter holders and 30 single serve coffee filters
·                     Simple to use; Ready in seconds
·                     Economical; Saves money, approximately 50 percent per cup when you use your own
                          favorite coffee or tea
·                     Quick and easy to clean up; Just remove and discard filter; Rinse and reuse holder
·                     Recyclable and BPA free

EatSmart Precision Voyager Digital Luggage Scale w/ 110 lb. Capacity & SmartGrip

I didn't even know these things existed until I was recently planning a flight and realized I had no idea what my suitcase weighed.   In the wonderful world of airline ripoff add-ons you can't go blindly through the night wondering how much they are going to gouge you for your suitcase.   This will save you an overage fee the first time you use it.   A great product, this one is more expensive than some of the competition but it is more durable than my friends.  It is very sturdy and I was even able to weigh a small package on it.   A very good purchase that has the potential of saving you some serious cash.

Tax Day Book Deal The Shadow Man for $0.99

If ever there is a day where you need to find a bargain, it is today!  May we all survive our congressional gridlock!

The Shadow Man by Mark Murphy--.99 cents for one week!
Author Mark Murphy has dropped the price of his ebook that has everyone talking to .99 cents from April 15th-April 22nd.
Boasting 4 and 5 star reviews on Amazon and GoodReads, The Shadow Man is a quick, deliciously creepy, fun read. Deemed "an enjoyable, well-written and twisty thriller with gruesome aspects balanced by warmth, believable relationships and a likable hero," by Kirkus Reviews, it follows surgeon Dr. Malcolm King, whose “perfect life” is destroyed as he is named the prime suspect in a serial murder case. But he’s not a killer. (Or is he?)
The Seattle Post Intelligencer says The Shadow Man is  “…downright creepy. . .particularly the ending. You will live Dr. Malcolm's physical and mental distress trying to piece together sliced up evidence before you and he are caged behind bars.”
About Mark Murphy: Murphy is a gastroenterologist by day, author by night, and columnist with the Savannah Morning News in between. His work has also appeared on the Huffington Post.

Hilfiger Vs. Ecko, A Tale of Two Belts

This is a tale of customer service or lack there of, Hilfiger the hero vs. Ecko the goat.   I got two belts at the same time.   Both belts were reversible.   One belt was a belt suitable for jeans and the other was dressy.  I am now aware that reversible belts are dramtically less reliable than a normal belt.  I have one other reversible belt that is going on it’s fourth year of use so it isn’t cast in stone that they are unreliable.  However in this case reliability is certainly questionable.

I got both belts as gifts and thus have no receipts or awareness of where they were purchased.  The Hilfiger belt’s buckle separated from the belt while putting it on one day.   The Ecko belt extended on first wearing, by extended I mean the small post that allows the buckle to swivel extended full length and would not retract after swiveling as the other two reversible belts do.   I had no concerns regarding that as the extended post was concealed by the buckle when wearing the belt.   While shopping one day, it failed; I heard a clink and looked down and the belt buckle was lying on the
floor.   Luckily my jeans are snug enough that I didn’t lose them. LOL, however I was dismayed.

I found a Hilfiger site online and called customer service.   A gentlemen told me their belts were made by Swank and gave me a name, phone number and extension and told me that that person would take of my problem.   I called the number and had to leave a message.  Having done that in the past with customer service representatives and received no call back, I shrugged and left a message assuming the worse.  Imagine my surprise when I got a call back from a delightful person named Sue who immediately apologized for my inconvenience.  She then asked me to mail her the belt.   Since I had an issue with the reversible belt she asked if she could send me two non-reversible belts in return.  I thanked her profusely for the amazing and satisfying customer service.

Ecko, on the other hand was a totally different experience.   I found a phone number for them online.   I called and was told I had to email my problem.   I got the email address and sent an email detailing my concern.   I received a prompt response that ignored all my information and told me to take the belt back to where I purchased it.   I re-emailed with the details and was told to tell the person (400 miles away) who got me the belt to find the pre-Xmas receipt and return the belt to the store.   I was told they could do nothing for me.   I had volunteered to send them the belt so they could ascertain the veracity of my complaint but they again told me to return it to the store.

There in lies the problem with many of today’s merchants.   If you ignore complaints they will go away.   However I would like to point out that Ecko lost a very verbal customer while Hilfiger cemented a relationship that will bring this same verbal customer back to their products.
Kudos to Hilfiger

Jarrow Formulas Lutein 20mg

American Optometric Association says there is no recommended daily intake for lutein and zeaxanthin, most recent studies show a health benefit for lutein supplementation at 10 mg/day and leaxanthin supplementation at 2 mg/day.

Lutein (LOO-teen) and zeaxanthin are important nutrients found in green leafy vegetables as well as other foods such as eggs. Many studies have shown that lutein and zeaxanthin reduce the risk of chronic eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts.

AMD and cataract incidence are growing. Worldwide, more than 25 million people are affected by age-related macular degeneration and the formation of cataracts. AMD is the leading cause of blindness in people over age 55 in the Western world and the incidence is expected to triple by 2025.

This is captured from the American Optometric Association website.  I wasn’t sure how to rate something like this as how do you know that it is working unless you conduct a double blind study with statistically viable numbers over a decade.  Since I don’t have a decade or population to conduct such study, I am dependent on my own research.  My ophthalmologist has recommended taking Lutein.   This product provides that at a reasonable price of $9.99 at Amazon.  The star rating is based on value for the money, it does NOT say this will work or is working since I have no way to prove that.   However considering the consequences of blindness, I will take whatever steps necessary to possibly prevent it.

Crest 3D White Whitestrips

This is the advanced seal, professional version.   These strips do a remarkable job on whitening your teeth.  My wife and I use them every six months and see a discernable difference each time.  My only complaint would be that every box seems to have one or two strips that when you pull it off of the plastic backing it takes the backing with it.   It is very difficult to then separate the adhesive strip from the plastic backing.   Otherwise this is a comparatively easy and so far as I have seen safe method to whiten your teeth.

I might add that you can find some pretty wide ranges between prices on this product.   Amazon often has the best price but I have had some luck on eBay as well.   You can get them in the $25 range if you shop around.   Considering they seem to sell for $40 in the drug store, it is worth taking the time to shop around.
